- as you can see from the pics, many of the rexes are looking
a bit patchy at the moment, but the double rexes having gone completely bald a
few days ago are getting a very fine thin carpet of coat coming back. The PEW
are F1 Wistar babies mostly passing through to go to other breeders. One black
rex buck remains unreserved from this litter and he is to go with agouti from
Jilly's litter.

- Baby's kittens are very lively and 'in your face' kittens
and always hanging off the door and trying to escape the cage given half a
chance. The two double rexes are virtually bald at the moment, but on weighing
the kittens, despite looking quite a bit smaller in size, the double rexes are
mid weight on average for the litter.

- once the eyes were open, this lot were off exploring and
into everything. They are very cheeky and confident kittens and already hang by
the door for attention. While none are actually runty, there is quite a bit of
difference on the sizes on them with one of the smooth coats, one of the rexes
and both double rexes being a bit smaller than their siblings.
At this age, visually there isn't that much difference between the double rexes, but their coats feel a lot coarser to touch. They start to lose their coat and go bald a few days before their siblings will and you can see from the front shots that the whiskers are not so clearly different now. (Double rexes are on the right in all bar the second picture of the agoutis where the double rex is the left hand one).

- the colours have become clearer now and the babies are
starting to get more mobile as well. Baby is a good mum, she's separating them
off into pile of 6 and pile of 7 for feeding them most of the time.
In the first picture you can see the coat on the double rex (right) is thinner than the coat of the rex. To touch they feel coarser as well. The second picture is of both double rexes and the remaining show the whiskers again. The double rex is on the left in the whisker pictures and you can see they are still tighter curled than the rex.
5 days old
- Baby gave birth while I was at work,
so I came home to a nest full of eepers. She is being a lovely mum and very
relaxed with me handling them. 14 kittens were born but one was dead in the nest
so 13 survivors who are all doing well and even on size. There are 3 smooth
coats, 2 double rexes and the rest are rexes.
Below shows the difference between the smooth, the rex and the double rex whiskers at day 5. In the pictures of three kittens, the left is the smooth coat, the middle is the rex and the right is the double rex. The whiskers on the smooth coats are straight, the whiskers on the rexes are curly but random, the whiskers on the double rexes are very tight and sparse so it is fairly easy to tell which is which. On the pictures with two kittens, the left is the double rex and the right the rex.
